Introduction to Woodworking

Introduction to Woodworking

Let's build! Each 8 week session teaches the basics, from hand tools to power tools, to get you started in your new woodworking hobby. Just two people in each class means you get lots of individual instruction.

Over the course of 8 weeks we'll build three projects. First, the cutting board teaches you the basics of milling wood from rough sawn to square and true. Then the small box introduces some basic joints and gives you lots of practice on the table saw. And finally: with the small table, we learn how to cut traditional mortise-and-tenon joints and create a beautiful piece for your home to show off your new-found skills.

Material fees are charged per project. Materials costs are typically $20 - $40 for smaller projects and $100 - $200 for a small table. Students are welcome to bring in their own materials where appropriate.

Students must be at least 16 years old. Make sure you read this page about shop safety.

Evening classes are from 6pm to 9pm at the Ruby Pear Studio in NW Seattle.

Registration for the Summer session is now open! No classes the week of July 4th.
